On December 2, 2006 we had our 2nd annual cane grinding. We started at 7am grinding cane and then at 11am we started cooking the cane juice down. It took about 4 hours to cook it down into syrup. Breakfast was served to those that showed up to help grind the cane and at lunchtime there was a big pot of chili hung over an open fire for people to enjoy. Ernie Johnson gave demonstrations on grinding corn with our old hit-n-miss engine and grist mill. He then taught the kids how to sift it to make corn meal and grits. Of course even some of the adults had to join in the fun. This year we had the Skeeter Creek Bluegrass Band that played for us while we cooked, ate and enjoyed the company of our family, friends and customers. Once again the food was excellent and the company was great. Hope to see you all again next year.
